Here comes the feeling that I’d thought I’d forgotten.
You are not letting anyone down. especially not if you’re coxing, because you’re making an active effort to be involved with your team. I’m proud of you.
If you are hurt… If you are rowing
through an injury and you think you can’t take time off to let yourself heal, I
want you to think about something…
I know it feels like your letting down your boat, team, and coach. I know it feels like letting down yourself. I know it feels like you weren’t strong enough.
But if you keep doing this, if you keep pushing your body your team is going to lose you.
I was so concerned about the A boat I wouldn’t even skip practice to have an MRI. I was so concerned about making my team proud that I rowed with an injury…
Because I didn’t row through the injury.
I worsened it to the point that I am never allowed in a boat again.
I was so concerned that I let a month of time off take my entire rowing career away.
Please. Just think about this and do better for yourself.
Getting a PR is one of the greatest things in the world because right then, in that moment, you are the best you’ve ever been.
