Hey i have a quick question about switching teams? I rowed at my school novice yr in 8th gr & spring of freshman yr& this fall i decided to row at the more competitive club team in my hometown. I fell in love with how much more competitive it was. Now I'm wondering if I should go back to my school for the spring or stay at the club team. My2k is2:06 5k is 2:18 and I'm5'4" and125lb I'm just worried that I'm not good enough to stay at the club team but wont get any better if i go back to my school
Stay on the club team. Your times are good. If you love the team there should be no question. Also, if your club team is making you better, you’ll only do damage by switching back.
They fired me coach. They were converting to a sculling team. I didn’t want to be part of something that fired one of the best coaches I’ve ever had. The other program was better, could take me farther, and has an amazing coaching staff. Everyone is a million times nicer.
Okay if pisses me off that people didnt believe my score. I went to the gym twice a day all summer for that 7:12.6 and yes its raw haha:) and thank you, my coach is rather intimidating so i wanted to make sure it was reasonable to ask him. Thanks again!
Take it as a complement. That time is increadible! :) good luck with everything!
The one from my old team… My first team. It still smelled like last year. A mix of Perfume and the boathouse. I looked at myself in the mirror. The lime and green and black material clinging to my skin. It was a stark contrast in comparison to my new blue and yellow jacket. The jacket that represented my new family. I but back a tear.
It wasn’t so much longing for my old team, because I have no desire to go back. I love my new team. It was longing for last year and my drive. My unstoppable drive.
Maybe it’s the shock of losing my novice label… Or something like that but suddenly everything about this sport feels more real… Yet so distant as head season comes to a close.
2k season is fast approaching. And that’s scary. Maybe it’s the push I need to get working harder than ever before.
Where do you think US Rowing goes wrong? At College level they are strides ahead of the rest of the world, but at International level they fail to provide any decent results?
Honestly, I can’t tell you.
Perhaps it’s the way they do recruitment or the emphasis put on erg scores over water scores and technique. (though both are at a high standard compared to the rest of the country, and DISCLAIMER, I don’t want any hate saying “well you’re not even close to either of these standards, bla bla bla”)
Im a sophmore lightweight girl and i pull a 7:12.6 2k. I was wonndering if ypu think i could row in college, i wanted someone elses opinion before i asked my coach about getting scholarships. Thank you!
if that is a raw score (and not weight adjusted) then yes. yes so so so so much. that’s incredible.
